About 5 years ago Vanessa was told by her neurosurgeon never to run again, which was devastating news to her. “My passion was cross country running and I was moving into triathlons when I suffered a second slipped disk”. After barely being able to walk and months of rehabilitation Vanessa slowly started walking and then found out about Nordic walking … and … well … like everyone fell in love with it!! Once fully fit Vanessa widened her Nordic walking activities to include long distance walking and hiking, having now walked widely in the UK and also in Morocco (the Toukbal mountains) and Europe.
Vanessa continues to lead a very corporate life, commuting to London where she works in an international law firm as an IT Consultant. When she is not working her other outdoor activities are tennis, cardio tennis, hiking and cycling, complimenting these with indoor activities such as swimming and barre concept (think in terms of ballet boot camp!).
Vanessa sees good health not just about being physically fit, but sees “good health” as being in all round shape emotionally, mentally and physically.
Over the years Vanessa has done many walking challenges and frequently takes part in 26 mile walking marathons raising money for charity. “It is my aim to take on some ultra walks, 32 miles plus and I know Nordic walking and training will help me achieve this…” says Vanessa.
